Western Beaver Special Education Department
Dear Parent / Guardian:
Beginning Monday March 23, 2020, the Western Beaver County School District is committed to making a good faith effort to provide continuity of education through planned instruction and appropriate and reasonable services for students while our school buildings are closed. During an extended closure of a school due to the COVID-19 health emergency, the district will continue to provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) consistent with the need to protect the health and safety of students with disabilities and those individuals providing education, specialized instruction, and related services.
During the extended closure, the Western Beaver County School District will provide special education and related services through distance instruction provided virtually through online classrooms, recorded videos, teletherapy and/or other modes. We are working to creatively provide instruction and related services through different modes due to the need for distance learning. In addition, progress monitoring of IEP goals may be collected in a different manner than they are typically done. The IEP team will work collaboratively to monitor progress during this time.
The Western Beaver Special Education team values education and we value your child. We understand the challenges school closure has caused and want to do our part in ensuring your child has equal access to learning. We also appreciate the expanded role that has been thrust upon parents and we want to be a support for you as well. Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and communities.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the District Office.
Director of Special Education
The Western Beaver County School District is proud to offer a full continuum of special education services and programs to all students eligible for such services. We implement and support inclusion Learning Support services, as well as Life Skills and Emotional Support services. Western Beaver also offers services such as speech/langauge therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, as well as support for hearing and/or visually impaired students. Social, behavioral, and sensory needs of students are met with appropriate supports. School districts may not charge parents of eligible students with disabilities for the costs of related services that have been included on the child's IEP when the team has determined that such services are required in order for the child to benefit from his or her education.
If you would like further information about our services, please contact Mrs. Elizabeth Altenhof- Director of Special Education at (724) 643-9310 or firstname.lastname@example.org
