ADJUSTMENTS TO THE WEEKLY SCHEDULE – WARMING CENTER -MEALS OFFERED
Dear Western Beaver Families:
The Western Beaver School District – understands and shares your frustration regarding the current weather event that has caused a disruption to the normal education day. Unfortunately, due to ongoing circumstances regarding hazardous roads and extreme cold the district will continue to follow a remote instruction schedule on Wednesday, January 28th and any decision regarding Thursday, January 29th, and Friday, January 30th will be on a day-by-day basis.
It has been a long week for parents, students, and faculty, as you know the district was closed, with no in-person or remote learning on Monday, January 26th due to the unusual winter storm event. This was done to allow families, the district, and the community time to assess the situation and begin the process of clearing the snow. While the District believes its buildings, parking lots and sidewalks are prepared to accept students, the continued hazardous roads and extreme cold are preventing this.
Due to the flexibility provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the District will not need to make up the day for students. Even with the day off, WB continues to meet the requirements of either 900 hours of instruction for elementary students (grades K-5) or 990 hours of instruction for secondary students (grades 6-12).
Meal Service for Students – Beginning Wednesday, January 28th
WB will be offering meal service for families that would like to have a breakfast and lunch meal on Wednesday, and if virtual learning on Thursday, and/or Friday. Should the district be fortunate enough to return to in-person instruction on Thursday and/or Friday – the meal service program would be suspended.
Location for meal pick-up:
1. Western Beaver Jr/Sr High School
2. Should you not be able to get to the Jr/Sr High School a delivery service can be arranged
Time for meal pick-up:
• 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Warming Center – Beginning Wednesday, January 28th
Requirement for warming center:
• Adults must accompany all children
o THIS IS NOT A DROP-OFF CENTER
• Students will be required to participate in their virtual learning
• At no time should individuals walk throughout the building
Time for warming center:
• 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
WB will be offering a warming center for families in need on Wednesday, and if virtual learning on Thursday, and/or Friday. Should the district be fortunate enough to return to in-person instruction on Thursday and/or Friday – the warming center would be suspended.
Please contact your District building office for more information.
Please stay safe and warm during these next few days.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Postupac
Superintendent
